A Great Day in the Life of an Author

Yesterday was so exciting, I finished my outside Christmas decorating and received a box full of my new novel, His Perfect Love. The virtual book launch party on Facebook went off beautifully. And now it’s time to send off gifts to those who had their name pulled out of the hat just for attending and having some conversation. I’d be very pleased if you would take a minute or two and check out my new novel available on Amazon and Kindle.  https://www.amazon.com/His-Perfect-Love-Sharon-Connell/dp/1505782139/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1480876539&sr=1-1

This Is America…Right?

This is somewhat of a rant, so be prepared.

Yesterday, we went to WalMart to do our once-every-two-weeks shopping. As I entered the store, I thought about how the store used to sell all American-made items. Then I was saddened to think how few American-made items we can find in any store today.

I began going down my shopping list. One of the very first items on the list could not be found anywhere. I stopped one of the employees in the department where I thought the item would be found and asked about it. She barely spoke any English and seemed totally dumbfounded as to what I wanted. I smiled and moved on.

Still not finding the item that I’ve bought there at the beginning of the Christmas holiday selling season in former years, I stopped another employee. She couldn’t speak English. She held up her finger and indicated that she would get help for me. The person she brought back to me barely spoke English and again was at a loss to help me.

We continued our shopping, giving up on the purchase of what I had tried to find.

As we approached the middle of the store, I once again thought I’d try to ask where the item I couldn’t find may be, if it wasn’t where I had looked. I stopped another employee. Again, she couldn’t speak English. This time I simply walked away shaking my head.

Near the end of our shopping experience, I had trouble finding another item on my list. Knowing that in the past, the store did carry it, I dared to ask yet another employee about this one. Guess what? She couldn’t speak English. She called another woman over to help. Guess what? She couldn’t speak English either. I threw my hands up and said, “Never mind!”

Now, I ask you, are we still living in America in Houston, Texas…or has the state slipped into another country? We are still flying the American flag. I do hear English being spoken on most occasions outside of our home. Do I have the right to expect people working in a store like WalMart in an American city to speak ENGLISH (or American if you want to be technical about the language)? If I were living in Mexico, or any other country, and decided to get a job there, I would make sure that I could converse in the language of that country. Is it too much to expect in this country? Really?

What is Becoming of Our Government?

It seems to me that our government is getting out of focus.

For example, who is running the country at the moment? No, I’m not talking about the news medial. Not this time. I’m talking about our President on the campaign trail for Clinton in Ohio. The Vice President is in Nevada for the same reason. WHO IS RUNNING THE COUNTRY?

It’s one thing to support or back a candidate that the President, or Vice President, thinks would do a good job. It’s quite another to leave your post and go off on a campaign to assure that person is elected. I believe it should be against the law for any government official to campaign actively for a candidate. Especially when it’s on our dollar. Are these people not supposed to represent ALL the people, not just a select group? This to me is a misuse of government funds. We are paying these people to do their job running this country from Washington, not run their mouths about the candidate they want to take over for them.

In Florida, when Senator Rubio decided to campaign for the presidency, he had to resign his post as a Florida Senator. Yes, I know, that’s Florida. I think it’s a great policy. How could he do his job as a Senator of Florida, representing the people of Florida, while running around on a campaign trail? Why is it okay for Governor Pence from Indiana to do so? Who’s working for the people of Indiana in his office while he’s off campaigning?

Another point of contention is this. Why was former President Clinton the person chosen to go with President Obama on Air Force One to the funeral of former Israeli Prime Minister, Shimon Peres in Israel? Why not another former President NOT connected with the current presidential campaign? Another misuse of public funds if you ask me, and another promotion of the Clinton clan in the campaign for the presidency.
