My Writing Tip for the Day

I’m no expert at this writing thing by any means, but I thought I’d pass this along to any of you who may not have thought about it…and/or who may benefit by something that has kept me fairly organized though the writing of my last two novels.

I’ve been using a 5 Subject Notebook, which I keep beside me at my desk while writing.  In it I record…

1.  The characters: names, descriptions, and notes about anything they do that I might have to remember later, such as hair, eyes, personality, what kind of car they drive, their favorite food, boss’ name, etc.
2. A running and very loose outline of the story as it progresses, putting the chapter number in the left margin and section (A, B, etc.) with a brief description of what is happening in that section.
3. Next I have the whole story outlined by page, reminding myself what the major things are that are happening on that particular page in case I have to find it later.  I record names and titles in red, dates/time/day in green, events and places in blue with the action in black. (Yes, it takes a little time to do this, but I’ve found it invaluable when I need to find something later.)  Actually, while I’m noting the action, I simply leave lines for the names, dates and event and go back and fill that in when I finish the page.
4. The next section is for notes I’d like to make about the story for later use or for editing purposes.
5. The last section is for notating things to check on before sending the story for proofreading and editing.

These are my sections, yours might be different.  I’ve found it to be so helpful in that everything is together in one place and you don’t have to look far for it.  Maybe you will too.

I put tabs on the section dividers for easy access.

When I do my read-through after the story is complete, I place a smaller tab on the following clean sheet in each section and begin notating again.

Going through this procedure, what I’ve found is that I wind up with less mistakes being made in descriptions and on my timeline.

Next time, perhaps I’ll tell you how I do my timeline.  The method I use for that has changed as I learn more about writing as well.

“Trump”-ed

So…what does Donald Trump have that no other candidate for the Presidency has?  Money…Nope!  Media coverage…Nope!  A famous name…Nope!  Criticism of the other candidates…Nope!  Criticism of the way our government is handling things…Nope!  I give!

Yes I know that he doesn’t back down from what he presents as his convictions; he doesn’t waver.  He takes a stand.  But what has he really said?  He wants to make this country great again; that’s his motto.  What ideas has he offered except that he’s a builder.  Did I miss something?

He has said a lot of things about what is wrong with this country, primarily about the illegal immigration problem…which indeed is a BIG problem.  He has made a lot of people angry.  He seems to be getting quite a following.  The statistics are high in his favor from what I last heard on the news.  The news media is giving him all the coverage he could possibly want because of the stir he is making.  The news media knows a good show stopper when they see it.

BUT…what is he going to do for our country that the other candidates will not?  What promises has he made that the others have not refuted?  Because he has enough of his own money to promote himself without anyone else’s help, does that make him a good candidate for President?  Do you really think he won’t have some “favors” to grant like any of the rest of them?  Because he knows what angers most of the citizens in this country and has spoken about what’s wrong with our government, does that make him a good candidate?

Yes, I’ve read what’s on his website: www.donaldjtrump.com  Did I miss how he’s planning to do all these things.  Yes, he did state how to build the wall across our border and pay for it, but it seems to me that he’s going to punish those that are trying to come into this country LEGALLY, instead of the ones who sneak in.

Personally, I’d like to hear him say how he’s planning on correcting the flaws in our government without punishing people who are trying to do what is right.  I’d like to hear him say how he’s going to make this country better without causing more hardship on the citizens.  And I’d really like to hear him say that he would bring our troops home from other countries who need to protect their own lands (using their own people and their own expensive equipment and finances), and change the law that states our troops cannot be deployed at our own borders to defend our country (Posse Comitatus Act).  We help everyone else…isn’t it time we help us?

I wonder…

I’m not taking sides here, really I’m not.  I’m not against Donald Trump.  I’m trying to find out what all of you think about this…I mean really think…as in really thinking about all of it.  I’m not going to rely on the news media to tell me the truth and brain wash me into believing what they want me to believe.  I would rather go to the people and hear your thoughts…pro or con.  I’m interested.

Windows 10

Does anyone have any information, pros or cons about Windows 10.  I keep getting this prompt that they want me to upgrade my Windows to 10 for free.  I’d like some advice.  Thanks in advance.

Where are our troops?

Where are our troops?.

Where are our troops?

Did our troops get brought home and we were never told about it?

Suddenly we have no word coming from the media about how our troops are doing?  Have they all come home?  Have they been captured?  Are they dug in somewhere and unable to get word out?

If nothing is happening, why aren’t they coming home?  If they are fighting, what about giving us some reports.  Have they been kidnapped by aliens?  Have they been forgotten over there?

Oh, I know, the news media is too busy to give reports about those who are defending our way of life, dying on foreign soil, enduring hardship so that we can relax and sit around having our coffee, watching the news media present a selection of drama queens and kings who want to further run our government into the ground and possibly make way for our enemies to come in and take over.

Is this truly what American’s want to see on the “news?”  It would seem to me that the news media no longer give us any “News.”  They simply entertain us with what they think or decide we want to see.  Really?  A stroller that costs over $1,000 is stolen.  Did we really need to hear about that?

Again, I ask, where are our troops?  I for one want to know what’s happening to them!  I do not want to hear every single word that passes out of a politician’s mouth.  Give us some facts, GIVE US SOME NEWS!
